Standards for Research in Child Health (StaR Child Health) Summit

International Forum of Standards for Research with Children StaR Child Health is a group of methodologists, clinicians and policy makers who seek to enhance the quality, ethics and reliability of pediatric clinical research by promoting the use of evidence-based guidance for clinical studies with children.

Summary: This conference will highlight the key methodological challenges in producing the best clinical research and identify a process to improve this. It will bring together some of the best minds working on these issues with current pediatric research networks. The summit will be an incredible opportunity for anyone who is interested in the design, conduct or reporting of clinical research in children. It promotes the development of globally applicable standards. So high quality and ethical research on interventions for children will be possible in all settings.

WHO Pediatric Trials in Developing Countries Meeting

Topics: 
• Adequate sample sizes and roles of data monitoring committees
• Relevant subgroups (e.g. age, disease severity)
• Age specific medicine administration and formulation
• Relevant comparators (e.g. active treatment or placebo)
• Relevant and valid outcome assessments
• Short term and long term trial participants’ safety
• Appropriate information for children and families that are eligible for inclusion in a trial (e.g. recruitment, informed consent)
• Minimizing risk of Bias
• Implementation of standards for research with children in developing countries
